Laser display with many advantages such as wider color gamu、higher color saturation、energy saving and environmental protection、longer service life, etc, is considered a new generation display technology following black and white display, color display, digital high-definition display. LCD flat panel display has some advantages such as small volume、light weight、stable images、lifelike images、no electromagnetic radiation、light and portable, wide application areas, etc, and is the mainstream of the display technology and market. In recent years, there are many researches on laser projection display technology, and the technology is relatively mature; But the researches on laser flat display are rare. Combining the advantages of laser display and LCD flat panel display, researching laser LCD flat panel display key technologies, not only has important academic significance, but also has great application value.The main research contents are the design of edge-lighting laser backlight、 experimental research,and do some preliminary research on laser backlight speckle reduction. Specifically, include the following five sections:(1)The shaping and homogenization of laser beam and importing the beam into LGP to producing a uniform light-emitting surface are key contents of laser LCD flat panel display. Based on the beam shaping principle of the phase-type diffraction optical element, this paper presents two implementations of edge-lighting laser backlight module, discuss the composition of the two laser backlight structure and working principle.(2)Based on some theories related to the Colorimetry and Photometry, analyze and discuss the wavelength selection principle of red、green and blue laser source, the color gamut coverage ratio, power matching when tricolor lasers reach the white balance, and calculate the color gamut coverage ratio and power matching ratio of the tricolor laser sources.(3)Model and simulate the two presented laser backlight modules, do optimization design on the scattering points of LGP in the first laser backlight, and based on this distribution of scattering points, simulate the second laser backlight.(4)The two laser backlight are experimented and tested for the uniformity, and the test results are analyzed.(5)Introduce the causes of laser speckle, analyze the influence factors of laser speckle in theory, then introduce some existing laser speckle reduction technology and present two methods used for the laser speckle reduction, finally do the laser speckle reduction experiment with one of the two methods.
