Quan Fang Bei Zu in fifty-eight volumes compiled by Chen Jingyi in the Southern Song Dynasty is an encyclopedia on plants in ancient China. The earliest edition in existence is the one printed and published in the Song Dynasty in which only forty-one volumes remain. It is now stored in the Loyal Library of Japan. Its copied version was send to China in the1980s, which has its returning to China once made quite a stir within the Chinese academia related. Meanwhile, all the editions reserved in the libraries in China are copied and printed during the Dynasty of Ming and Qing. In Imperial Collection of Four written and edited in the period of Qian Long, Quan Fang Bei Zu was also included and this version is the most common version can been seen in the present. This thesis takes the version preserved in the loyal library of Japan as the sample text. The aim is to analysis the value of this version regarding its contributions to the collating and addendum on Song Poem. The thesis consist of three chapters. The first chapter introduces its related bibliographic descriptions and editions in existence. The second chapter focuses on the collation between the editions printed and published in the Dynasty of Song and the one in Imperial Collection of Four, based on which the advantages and weakness of each version will be concluded. The third chapter, based upon the Complete Collection of Song Poems and the Emendations of the Complete Collection of Song Poems, discusses the application of Quan Fang Bei Zu and the addendum on Song Poem. Lastly, the thesis puts Quan Fang Bei Zu in the boarder context of Chinese traditional culture and discusses the possibilities for future researches.
