The selected poems from those three books were all from the representative poets and poems from the pre-Qin period to the Northern Song Dynasty, the time coherence of which demonstrated his conceptions about the history of ancient poems. Therefore, this article focuses on The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty and also gives considerations to the contemporaneous anthologies of Song poetry, discussing Mr. Zhu’s views of poetry of Song Dynasty and assessing the academic status of The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty in the context of the Song poetry study in the late Qing and Republican period and the alternating of the old and the new literature.The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty was the anthology of Song poetry compiled by Zhu Ziqing when he taught Song Poetry in the Southwest Associated University. This book excerpted152poems of five great masters-Mei Yaochen, Ouyang Xiu, Wang Anshi and Su Shi. This article recalled the classical literature study of Mr.Zhu and the background and purpose of compiling first. Then, he discussed the general situation of choosing poems of The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty. We can see the strong philology foundation of Mr. Zhu through the calibration method of the old notes and the new notes and his inventiveness in collecting and cutting poems from the choices of critical materials. Mr. Zhu thought that poem was multivocal but not inapprehensible and explaining poetry must use the analyzed method. Explaining poetry by literary contents, emotions, tones and intentions drew support from the signifies in the west civilization and also inherited the explaining ways of traditional down-to-earth learning. It needed take full advantage of textual criticism and critical data from predecessors. Searching should be extensive but choosing should be strict.What is more, under the insights of the history of literature, The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty reviewed the values of the voluminous of five words poems with the ancient style and reflected the development trend from praising of objects to argumentation in Song poem. It revealed the process of producing of Song poem and Mr. Zhu’s style-discriminating views of poetry of Song Dynasty from the perspective of choices of famous works, the literal groups and the chimed activities.Finally, from the perspective of the new and the old, compared with The Essential Points of the Essay of Tang and Song Dynasties and The Excerption of Song Poem, discussing The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty inherited the methods of explaining poems by characters of Tongcheng School and the notion of removing Tang poem standard of Song poem school in the one hand, and reflected the influences of New Cultural Movement to Mr. Zhu in the other hand. The expressed style-discriminating views of poetry of Song Dynasty in The Selections from Five Poets of Song Dynasty contained his conceptions of construction of New Poems.
