High frequency ceramic chip capacitor is one of the commonly used RF circuit components. It plays an important role in RF circuits. Measuring the performance of chip capacitors with high-precision instruments before factory is an essential. From the early1890s, methods of measuring chip capacitors with resonant cavity have been generally recognized. Now, with the emergence of new high-precision measuring instruments, the accuracy and efficiency of the measurement increases, too.Antenna and microwave lab corporate with Dalicap Company to research the method of measuring resonator chip capacitors based on vector network analyzer, the author participated in the projects and summary this paper. According to the American Industries Alliance (EIA) RS-483standard improve the resonator into a device based on vector network analyzer. The author has design a connector with the help of HFSS electromagnetic simulation software. In the actual case, by measuring the resonant cavity34A situation found that there is more than a simple resonator coaxial resonant line, but with distribution parasites. the author calculate the lumped equivalent parasitic inductance and capacitance which simplifies the RS-483standard formulas. In addition, in order to let the whole measurement process to be convenient to measurement and calculation in actual production, the author has set up an automated measurement platform based on GPIB interface and program in VC++6.0development environment to realize the complete measurement process from measure, calculation to saving.The research result has been used in Dalicap Company daily to measure the capacitors and bring it some economic benefits. Compared the results of the research with device of frequency generator, mill volt; compared the measurement results with the E4991A impedance material analyzer; compared the measurement with device of KEMET. From these comparisons, we know that the device in this paper can be used to measure the chip capacitors in the frequency range from100MHz to3GHz.
