Laboratory is an important place for teaching and scientific research in universities,storing many types of experimental equipment. These equipments have the characteristics ofinflammable, explosive, toxic, coupled with frequent use, concentration and mobility, whichis easy to bring about the fire, toxicosis, mechanical wounding, environmental pollution, etc.Anyone happens will often bring enormous property loss to the university, sometimes evencasualties. In recent years, with the increasing number of college students as well as thelaboratory, more intensified security matters bring to the daily laboratory management. Howto lower costs, guarantee the daily operation of experimental instruments and equipment,eliminate the potential safety hazard of experimental activities, and maintain the order of theteaching and scientific research has become an urgent problem to solve.Under this background, this paper focus on the applied technology. According to thedemand of university laboratory monitoring with the existing laboratory power and networkenvironment, in accordance with the principle of practical, reliable, advanced, and effective,an emerging technology named ZigBee was introduced to solve the short distance wirelesscommunication. This technology was used to form a wireless communication network, whichrealizes the full coverage of the lab environment. With the help of its sensor and controlsystem on the ZigBee terminal, it’s available to collect information on the laboratoryenvironment, security of power, etc.Together with the design of the embedded gateway basedon ARM architecture, which is responsible for processing various sensor data and controlrelevant linkage device automatically according to the system requirements. In this way thissystem realizes the regulation and alarm in laboratory environment. On this basis, taking theexisting LAN as a communication mode between monitoring terminal and embedded gateway,so as to achieve the remote monitoring and control. In addition, as a supplement to themonitoring work, this system employs the camera module to collect the monitoring region ofthe video information, and then transmit the information to the remote monitoring terminal bymeans of the efficient RTP protocol.Different from the traditional monitoring system, this system adopts the finishedproducts of wireless sensor to build the network. with the incorporation of different sensors,it’s available to solve the wiring difficulties, poor adaptability and so on. Tests show that,within the covering space of ZigBee network node, the ZigBee network can be built up in ashort time, and carry on the real-time data acquisition, forwarding, and transmissioneffectively. This system has the following advantages.It’s simple to install and maintain. Its user interface is friendly. It has good flexibility and scalability, and can complete themonitoring tasks in laboratory at the lower the cost of operation and maintenance. It candetect and process various security risks in order to ensure the normal experimental activitiestimely. Hence, reduce the work intensity of managers and improve the level of laboratoryinformation management.
