Discussion And Analysis On Technology In Management Of Collections In Museums

The construction of digital museum is the trend of the times because the museums are massive in museum collections and extensive in information, and kind of multimedia are used in museum within the information age comes, so artificial management can’t meet the growing database. The type and scale of museum are different and different kind of museums have different work flow, and because different museums started the construction of museum digitized in different time in countrywide, the problems in the construction of museum digitized are complex in our country.This paper is devised into five parts. The first part is Introduction which is mainly about the concepts of digital museum and museum collection information. It also talks about the development and current status of digital museum at home and abroad. The second part is mainly about the problems in information collection from museum collections. This part discourses how computer works in collection now days and the standards of information collection on multimedia from a practical point of view. This part also talks about the way computer system solves problems in information collection. The third part of the paper is mainly about the data storage in digital museums. It introduces the databases which are fit in museums and normal storage structures. The forth part of the paper is mainly about information inquiry in digital museums. In order to make it clear, this part talks about inquiry from two parts which are inquiry in museum websites and in entity museums, at the end of this part, it puts forward to making the inquiry easier to public. In the fifth part of the paper is about two information management systems for museums which are widely used in museums in our country, then introduces the features of these two software briefly, then raises the problem about data standards in data transmittance in network, and put forward the concept of metadata to solve the problem. At last of this part the writer comments museum professionals should increase exchange with computer science professionals.
