There are various access networks in the next generation network system, such as the Satellite Network, Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM), UMTS/LTE (3/4G), Wimax, WLAN, etc. These access networks have their own different network characteristics and unique roles. Therefore, the next generation of communications technology tends to be heterogeneous and integrated, and the access selection mechanism then becomes one of its hot topics. The access selection mechanism in heterogeneous network should meet not only the users’demand of Qos, but also the network operator’s requirement of profit. Considering the current research work in the field of access selection mechanism in heterogeneous network, it needs further study in terms of design for access selection mechanism in heterogeneous network, and optimization and compromise of its performance.On the basis of summary of the existing access network selection algorithms, a new distributed access selection algorithm which is called FAHP-GRA is proposed in this paper to determine the optimal target network for users in heterogeneous network system:the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) method is used to turn the user’s subjective preference into the objective weights of each parameter of candidate network, while the Gray Relational Analysis (GRA) method is used to sort the candidate networks. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can balance the load of the whole heterogeneous network system and shows good performance in user’s experience of satisfaction.Access network selection in heterogeneous network system should not only meet user’s demand of quality of service, but also network side’s demand of load balancing and profit. To maximum the income of both sides of user and network, the Matching Game, which is a part of Cooperative Game Theory, is introduced to the access selection. The access network selection is turned into the scheme to find the stable match which brings highest degree of both sides’satisfaction. The simulation results show that this centralized strategy can balance the requirements and gain ideal satisfaction of both sides.
