Wireless Mesh networks are multi-hop wireless network which can be self-organizing and self-healing. It has many advantages such as easy networking, low-cost, high transfer rate, stable network performance and so on. The deployment of routers which is provided with gateway function can achieve the integration of a variety of wireless networks and expand the coverage of the network. High-performance routing protocol is critical to ensure the normal working of network in Wireless Mesh networks. Therefore, it is very necessary to study the routing protocols of Wireless Mesh Networks.First, the paper proposes a new routing protocol called LB-AOMDV based on AOMDV.LB-AOMDV has many advantages such as high efficiency, low overhead, and better load balancing capability. The algorithm increases the path link status information in the route discovery process of AOMDV, and improves the path selection and routing maintenance. We simulate the new protocol with NS-2, Simulation results show that LB-AOMDV protocol has lower average delay, routing discovery frequency and packet loss comparing with AOMDV protocol in same network environment.Second, in order to make the routing protocols can quickly find the gateway to meet the requirements of heterogeneous Mesh Network. The paper improves LB-AOMDV routing protocol, and gets a enhanced LB-AOMDV. This routing protocol has proactive, reactive, hybrid gateway discovery methods. We also simulate the new protocol with NS-2, Simulation results show that enhanced LB-AOMDV protocol has lower average delay, routing discovery frequency and packet loss comparing with enhanced AOMDV protocol in same network environment.
