The mobile Internet is the combination of mobile communications and the Internet, with the rapid development of mobile Internet, it has laid the foundation for the development of wireless access networks.Wireless access networks are not the simple achitechture any more, providing users with a variety of wireless access technologies, such as cellular networks, WLAN and WiMax, which make it possible to access to the Internet under different scenarios and different occasions. With the development of mobile Internet services, the wireless data traffic has an explosive growth, bring a huge load pressure to the mobile core network. In order to ensure the user’s business experience, to meet the user’s demand for mobile Internet services, and to reduce the load pressure of the mobile core network at the same, operators of the world are looking for the method to offload data traffic and have reached a consensus. On one hand, considering the cellular network itself, it should be upgraded to LTE network, which with a faster rate, a greater capacity and a higher quality. On the other hand, considering the heterogeneous access network, WLAN has become the main method to offload data traffic from cellular network.The integration of WLAN and cellular networks is becoming an important trend. With the widely deployment of the WLAN hotspot and2G/3G/LTE network, as well as the popularity of intelligent terminals, users want to have a consistent, smooth business experience. At the same time, operators need to manage the wireless access network efficiently and make fully use of multiple access network resources to provide users with a satisfactory service, many factors promote the integration of WLAN and cellular networks. The world’s major operators and equipment manufacturers are actively promoting the integration of WLAN and cellular networks, and they have formulated technical standards and technical reports. But the study on the integration of WLAN and cellular networks by the international oganizations is still in the preliminary stage, not yet ripe.This article researched the integration of the WLAN and the cellular networks, especially researched the integration of WLAN and LTE network. The existing access proposal demands much on the terminals and the internet, in order to solve this problem, we proposed a program for WLAN access to LTE core network without terminal impact. To sovle the deficiencies of the existing LTE core network access architecture, we proposed an optimized program of LTE core network access architecture based on the direct channel. To solve the weakness of multi-connection management mechanism on terminals, we proposed a program to enhance the network selection between WLAN and cellular networks based on ANDSF and we verified it by network simulator. This article has proposed several significant new and optimized programs in many aspects, such as the cellular network access architecture, how WLAN access to the cellular network and the network selection between WLAN and cellular network, which have made contributions to the integration of WLAN and cellular networks.
