All Dielectric Self-supporting Optical Fiber Cable (ADSS) is a new kind ofcommunication cable, and has been widely used. A lot of field observation proof thatwind-induced vibration is the most important factor to make ADSS can’t run normally.Wind vibration characteristics of ADSS are mainly discussed in this paper, which mainlyinclude three aspects: aeolian vibration, galloping and the influence of wind when thehigh-speed train passes through. In this paper, the main content is divided into the following three parts:First, analyze the mechanism of aeolian vibration. Establish the finite element modelof ADSS. And calculate the result of aeolian vibration by Newmark method. Then estimateits fatigue life by the rain-flow method, fatigue rules, and the Weibull distribution. Theresults show that ADSS’s fatigue life is about28.1years in local conditions.Second, establish3D models of the train. Calculate the external flow field of a traindriving in a high speed. And gain the wind speed changed by time in the height of ADSS(about8meters high over ground), according to which the influences on ADSS cablescan be judged. The results show that there will be some velocity fluctuation in the air flowfield around ADSS, but the wind loads is very small. The maximum variation of ADSSstresses is only0.441%.Third, analyze the mechanism of galloping and excitation modes. Calculate theaerodynamic coefficient under different attack angles. Then get ADSS’s characteristics ofgalloping by Newmark method. The results show that ADSS will gallop in specialconditions, and its maximum horizontal amplitude is3.5meters.
