Research Of University Library Website Usability

With the popularization of network,the library’s functions of preserving human cultural heritage,and enriching human spiritual and cultural life have not changed, but the physical library is not so significant as before in the role of the main position of information resource service. Library website has become the main medium of communication to conduct information service. For the majority of library users,especially young users, using library websites to get information services has become the first choice.As the role of Web site has become increasingly important,the user has higher requirement to the quality of library website. Perfect library website not only should be rich in information resources that people can use, but also the overwhelming information should be Integrated in line with the user habits of thinking and searching. To reveal the current usability problems in university library website, this paper takes Shandong university library as object of research and adopts the usability test, questionnaire, interview method and card sorting method for website usability study.The author invites20graduate students in Shandong university to participate in Website usability test, questionnaire and interview.the test content involves directory search, article search and library services,and a total of20test tasks have been designed for usability test.Questionnaire consists of two parts:the first part is the test of each website usability evaluation influence factor, the second part is users comments and suggestions to the design of library website. Questionnaires are carried out after the usability test, interviews are done after the user filled out the questionnaire. Then,in view of the problem of website information organization and directory which found in early research, the author uses card classification method to evaluate homepage navigation catalogue, so that the result about problems on the home page navigation column can be more accurately and effectively. Finally, based on the above research and analysis,this article put forward suggestions to improve website design.
