With the development of modern society, people’s living environment is becoming more and more complicated.It leads to endless kinds of fire which become more and more difficult to be controlled.As a result,the requirement of the fire control system of flame detection is raising constantly.The old methods relying on human handwork have been unable to meet the needs.So intelligent fire detection based on computer technology、application of electronic technology and digital image processing technology arises at this historic moment.This design regards flame detection system based on FPGA and Nios Ⅱ as research subject.It integrates video acquisition flame detection video display, and forms a small independent system which can work without the PC. It helps flame detection equipment turn to a direction which is minitype and wieldy.Video monitoring system regrads Altera Cyclone Ⅱ series EP2C70F896C6chip as its core, uses TRDB D5M as video acquisition device.The acquirement and control of video are completed mostly by hardware method.Flame detection part adopts an embedded software method with the processor of Nios Ⅱ. In short, the complete function from acquisition to flame detection is implemented on a FPGA development board, and users can watch the result video by an external VGA monitor.This thesis first show the recent situation of fire control system the content and characteristics of embedded system based on FPGA.Then it mainly introduces the design process of fire detection system, which mainly include project design, component selection, and software code. The details of important module are accessible. Finally this thesis introduces a fire detection software method by using Nios IDE platform.In addition this thesis mentions a method of watching one flame picture in video by writing BMP picture file into PC.The whole system combines software and hardware.Software method is easy to enforce and optimize. Hardware method reduces the pressure on Nios Ⅱ system processings the same time it makes the system have a high level of reliability and real-time performance. This project finally completed the design and debug of flame detection system. It successfully detects flame under an environment of laboratory, and has marked the fire position. Some successful experiments are exhibited at the end of this thesis. Futhermore, the system reserves plenty of storage space and FPGA logic resources, which can be used for further complicated image processing algorithm design or system upgrade.
