The twenty-first century is the age of the optical information, the rapid development of optical communication is promoting the technology and properties of light constant breakthrough. Optical fiber coupler is widely used in optical fiber communication system and The optical fiber sensing system.etc. In the application, the polarization dependent loss (PDL) of optical branching device is a non-negligible performance parameter. At present, PDL of the optimal DWC in the industry is still above0.15dB. So far, how to get low polarization dependent loss optical coupler is a problem on the manufacturing.From the Angle of the experiment, this paper presents the production conditions of typical spectral optical splitter which can get low PDL. Then Compared with simulation model, and detailed analysis of the influencing factors of PDL. During the experiment, according to how complicated operation it is. As the same time we observe the real-time monitoring of excess loss (EL). From this, the higher yield condition is obtained. The work that been done in this paper are as follows:(1) A brief summary of the development of optical communication in all countries the development history and the current optical fiber communication. In today’s world FTTH becomes the development trend of optical networks, this trend has prompted large development of optical passive components.(2) FBT has become the main producing method to the optical fiber splitter. The second chapter introduces the FBT system and its advantages. Illustrate the optical index of DWC, at the same time, points out the process and manufacture attention matters of DWC.(3) From the experiment, we found that the stretching speed and hydrogen flow (i.e. the temperature of the heat source) are the controllable factors of EL. Production yield is one of the decisive condition for production costs. It is concluded that the two factors affecting the yield of EL respectively and the difficulty to control the parameters.(4) This article concluded that optimized conditions which the PDL of Single-window optical splitter and DWC are less than0.1dB. Give the relation between stretching speed and the changes of PDL of seven typical DWC. The form birefringence makes the optical devices exist PDL. When the form birefringence is zero, the melting degree is1.88, and PDL is0 theoretically. Then compared with the simulation results reflect the size of the PDL depended on the melting degree D of two optical fibers.
