This paper analyzes the birefringence effect on the polarization dependent loss of the broadband splitter.Firstly, this paper introduces the development status of optical fiber communication and Triple play.Secondly, this paper analyses the coupled-mode theory and derives the relationship of the powers between two fiber-coupled. This paper also derives the polarization evolution using the coupled-mode equation. Does research in the polarization characteristics of 1×2 single-mode optical fiber splitter from the concept of degree of polarization, gives the expression of the degree of polarization, introduced by the birefringence effect of polarization dependent loss of splitter. This paper also introduces the advanced production processes of splitter, makes a significant improvement in the efficiency and performance. Using Mueller matrix method to test polarization depensent loss.In the third part, this paper introduces the relationship between device performance and process parameters. Analysis of relationship between pre-pull length and speed of D50/50 splitter, the relationship between speed and PDL. Finally, We found that the polarization dependent loss of splitter is different at different speed, PDL curve has an intersection. In less than intersection,1310nm PDL is less than 1550nm PDL with the birefrinqence effect. In greater than intersection,1310nm PDL is greater than 1550 PDL with the tensile stress effect. We also found that suitable drawing speed for splitter with low polarization in the cross-point of PDL curve. We propose the best speed to produce D50/50 splitter with lower than 0.05dB PDLis0.25±0.05mm/s.At last, we also found this pattern applies to various splitting ratio splitter, and propose the suitable drawing speed for different splitting ratio splitter.
