Data Processing Computer in traditional radars should undertake echo data processing and real-time control on other radar subsystems simultaneously. Heavily-increasing radar data and more complicated subsystem controls imposes great pressure on Data Processing Computer. Thus a scheduling system should be designed between Data Processing Computer and other subsystems to receive instructions from Data Processing Computer and implement real time control on other radar subsystems. This scheduling system is referred as Radar Control System.First, this paper introduces development status of radar control systems、VMEand FPGA, analyzes radar control systems’working principles, and proposes a VME+FPGA design scheme by using VP327board computer as the master control board running on VxWorks real-time embedded system.In view of research and engineering aspects, this paper gives details on hardware/software design of the proposed radar control subsystem and describes its system development and debugging methods.Proven by experiments, this proposed radar control subsystem based on VME+FPGA is able to conduct real time control on other radar subsystems and features significant real control ability and reliable performance, and could be used as reference for research and development of future radar control systems.
