In the research process of radar system, we often require a high-performance and reliable radar target echo simulator in order to carry out testing and evaluation. Radar target simulator is a kind of important simulation device which can achieve the target echo and the environment simulation.This paper discusses how to achieve a versatile and configurable radar target echo simulator system based on FPGA. Different distance, speed, direction, pitch angle can be set to simulate the corresponding echo based on the debugging requirements on the user interface. Modern radar theory provides a variety of techniques to generate radar signal, this article uses the most popular DDS technology to generate radar signal waveform.Firstly, this paper gives an introduction to the overall design of the system.And then it analyzes the design of the two LFM signal model and the gaussian white noise source, at the same time it verifies the correctness of the model using Matlab simulation.Then this paper discusses FPGA design of radar target simulator system, including DDS module design, microblaze module design and the gaussian white noise signal source design. Finally, this paper describes its PC-side application interface design.The debugging results shows that the radar target echo simulator designed can fully meet the expected requirements of the indicators.
