In recent years, with the depth of research on technology and the development of knowledge economy, social demand on professional applied talents is increasing ceaselessly. Only if combine theory with practice in education, can colleges help students timely meet this social need. Laboratory as a basic component in education system plays an important role in the training of students’practice ability and innovation ability. As traditional laboratory have certain limitations in teaching scale, equipment upgrade, capital investment and so on, the popularization on practical education is restrained. Along with the development of internet technology and virtual reality technology, remote virtual laboratory as an effective solution to this problem emerges, as the times require.Based on the above background, the research group constructed virtual network laboratory systems that based on B/S structure to solve the shortage of communication network laboratory, the problem of high construction costs and the difficulty in maintenance and update. There are two kinds of experiment modes:two-dimensional virtual experiment system and3D virtual laboratory system. The task of study and optimization design on3D virtual laboratory system is undertaken in this paper. Based on the earlier work of application management platform and laboratory roaming platform in system construction, the structure of this system is designed, experiment platform in virtual laboratory is developed and the application management platform is optimized and expanded.In this paper, firstly the earlier work in system construction and demand in system application are analyzed and then system optimization design scheme is put forward. On this basis, system architecture and system function are designed. Then, the realization approach for each function of the system is found out through further study on related implementation techniques of each function. Finally, this system is developed and achieved step by step according to the determined technical routes.In the perfection of lab scene and the modeling of virtual devices,3DS Max is used to model the equipments exactly, fully in accordance with the real scene and equipments. In the implementation of virtual experiment platform,3D interactive design software Virtools is used to make detailed interactive design for each part, such as the effect after double-click the button, the alteration after button or menu pressed, menu expansion and withdrawal. And in order to help user experience the work process of real equipments, device functions, as the main part in an experiment, are focused on to design and develop. Also, in the design of experiment process, some auxiliary functions are joined, like timing and time reminder, automatic marking, equipment preview. What’s more, theory learning module is added to the application management platform. Thus this system realizes the combination of theory teaching with practice teaching, thereby the quality of distance education is highly improved. This module is achieved as an e-book form by Flash technology with JavaScript language. The interface is beautiful and has a certain degree of interactivity. In addition, data access module is optimized, when user uploads experiment result to remote server, so that subscribers can be aware of the detailed result and conveniently review the experiment.In the end, the main work in this paper is summarized. Meanwhile, in view of the development trend of virtual laboratory and some existed problems, prospect on this subject is put forward.
