This paper mainly researched on the localization technology of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). As we all know, it is crucial to determine sensor nodes’location for WSN monitoring activities. However, a variety of limitations such as cost, consumption, size, etc. make localization technology a lot of difficulties. This paper introduced research status, characteristics, positioning techniques about WSN through a lot of related materials.Current localization algorithms of WSN are classified into two types:range-based and range-free. This paper focused on DV-Hop algorithm and Centroid algorithm which are based on Range-free localization algorithm of WSN and RSSI method based on Range-based localization algorithm. According to MATLAB simulation, we discussed the influence of the density of beacon nodes and the density of nodes on positioning accuracy.Then, based on DV-Hop algorithm, Centroid algorithm and RSSI localization method, an improved localization algorithm for WSN named RCDV-Hop was proposed in this paper. This thesis described the basic principle of this algorithm. MATLAB simulation result showed that, compared with traditional DV-Hop algorithm, the positioning error of RCDV-Hop algorithm was reduced. Meanwhile it did not need additional hardware cost, and the positioning performance was improved effectively.So as to verify the improved algorithm, this paper designed a WSN hardware system based on the ZigBee protocol, which was low-power and low-cost. The core module of hardware system was CC2430which was integrated by51MCU and RF. The hardware circuits of sensor nodes were designed by using the software Protel. The system software thesis was based on IAR platform and node communication program was based on the ZigBee protocol stack. According to the improved localization algorithm, some related application programs were developed in this system. The accomplishments of different kinds of nodes were described in details. In VS2008circumstance, this paper designed the PC monitoring software, which showed the localization results in time.At last, practical test was implemented. This test solution got a good localization performance based on RCDV-Hop algorithm. This system could reduce the requirements of hardware with a low cost. Experiment results showed that the positioning system was feasible basically.
