In the age of Information technology, data protection is increasingly important, and the data protection technology developed by leaps and bounds. Data protection in the past, just simply copy and save. Such as database files,if you want to view these data, you must prepare the appropriate operating system and database environments. As a result, it will increase the difficulty to access data and restore data and reduce the significance of data protection. The application virtualization system based on data dumping solve this problem. It dumps all valid data from different file systems to standard VMDKs, including the operating system and other application software. The system uses a quasi-CDP (continuous data protection) technology based on disk10, not only has little effect on system performance, but also reduce the loss of data. The design of the system includes design of server, design of backup client, design of client driver, design of recovery enviroment and recovery programme.Additional, the paper discuss an easy-to-use method on system drilling and a method on recovery from another machine. The two keys of the system are the data dumping method based on VMDK and the driver which monitor disk writing. This paper takes NTFS file system as example,to explain how to dump the valid data from NTFS file system to VMDK file. The process is the foundation of backup. In order to synchronize data between source disk and target VMDK file, the driver acquire each writing operation and record the location of modified data in a designed map table.
