With the continuous performance improvement of computer hardware, the virtualization technology has been a research hot spot for several years.Depending on advanced hypervisor architecture and high efficient I/O performance,Xen gets much enterprise support and becomes more and more popular.Xen hypervisor is an open source project* developed by a laboratory of computer science in Cambridge University. It can enable us to create and run about one hundred virtual machines in one computer, and what's more, each of the virtual machines is an independent instance that can operate by itself.Although,in the beginning,Xen can only run the modified kernel of Linux by Para-Virtualization technology, it can make a breakthrough in the reduction of virtual system cost. Later, with the support of hardware virtualization technology,we can run Windows in a Full-Virtualization way. After studying the correlative characteristics of Linux,Xen and Windows, the author does some research in the comparation of Full-Virtualization device I/O path and Para-Virtualization device I/O path. With an Imagine running Windows Para-Virtualization Driver to improve I/O performance, the author studys the development of NDIS network driver and SCSI harddisk driver and finally runs the Para-Virtualization Driver on a full virtualized Guest OS.It approves to be an excellent performance improvement.
