With the development of mobile communication systems, the mobile communicationterminals-mobile phones, also move toward digital, multi-mode, multi-band and smartphone.The multi-band smart phone has been developed rapidly from the21st century.Antenna as adevice of transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves, is an important part of mobilephone. So its future development will be built-in,multi-antenna,miniaturization, multi-band,new structure and new technology.The paper will firstly introduces the basic theory of the antenna,and the activeparameters and testing methods of mobile phones. Then the paper will study in the evolutionof the plane inverted F antennas (PIFA) that widely used in smartphones, focus on theanalysis of the various features of PIFA antennas in mobile phone. And also the variousmethods of the miniaturization and mutil-band.In this paper, the design method is a combination of simulation and practice.Firstly, usingthe3D electromagnetic simulation software HFSS to simulate and adjust and optimize thestructure of the PIFA smartphone antennas, then manufacturing the physical antennaaccroding the conclusion of the simulation, testing the measured results to verify thesimulation results. In the end, the thesis have designed two antennas for smartphones, facingto the hotspot and trends of mobile phone antenna design. One is the dual-band integratedantenna used in GPS and Bluetooth/WiFi, its performance reached the practical requirements.Another is a quad-band miniaturization smartphone antenna that work for GSM/DCS/PCS/WCDMA communication systems.Using the network analyzer to measure its characteristiccurve and using the chamber to test its active parameters, the result pass the OTA(over the air)test,so the antenna can be easily used for commercial.
