Antenna, as one of the important components in wireless communications, its performance determinates the quality of communication. From last century 90's, wireless communications especially ground-mobile communications have been developed rapidly, the development of the wireless communications drives the development of the antenna. Rapid development of the wireless communication technologies raises greater demand of antenna. The miniaturization, multi-band and broadband operation of the antenna attract more and more research interest in recent years. Hence, many researchers bend themselves to study the methods improving the antenna performance, put forward so many techniques to make the antennas' miniaturization, multi-band and broadband come true.Firstly, basic principle of monopole antenna is introduced, and then the correlative parameters of antenna in this thesis are presented. Then the frequently used numerical methods in computational electromagnetic (FDTD) are expatiated. The s-parameter is discussed.This thesis introduces the developmental process of the planar inverted-F antenna, summarizes the technologies of miniaturization, multi-band and broadband, and approves the validity by using the simulating or experiment.Finally, it brings forward a new-style antenna configuration by using the techniques of loading, ring and coupling. This antenna can be used to cell phone. This novel compact internal five-band handset antenna covers CDMA, GSM(?)00, DCS, PCS and WCDMA bands. The other antenna designed in this thesis covers the transmit band of WCDMA. In this design, we should consider not only the characteristics of each antenna but also the isolation of the two antennas. During the designing, FDTD is used to analyze the impedance characteristics and directivity. HFSS is used to simulate and optimize until the performances are good enough. This antenna has the characteristics of miniaturization, multi-band and broadband. Lastly, we fabricate and test that antenna, give some parameters and compare to analysis and simulation results.
