Weng Fanggang And His Achievements Of The Emendation Annotation

Weng Fanggang is a famous scribe, epigraphy, poet, scholar in China in the Qing Dynasty, and also one of the ministers of the library of Si Ku Quan Shu. His Abstract Draft of theGeneral Catalogue of the Si Ku Quan Shu is the important reference for the study of Si Ku Quan Shu and the General Catalogue of the Si ku quan shu. However, at present, scholars at academia mainly focus on two aspects on him. On the one hand, they study his poetry anthology Fu Chu Zhai and ShiZhou, and the S Texture Theory; on the other hand, they study the task allocation of the Si ku quan shu, which only emphasizes on stone inscription books, and neglects his tenure in his task.This paper will be based on his Abstract Draft of the General Catalogue of the Si Ku Quan Shu, which was written when he was the minister, and further confirmed his hard work and endeavor and summarize the compilation of ideas, compiled methods, and the compilation features, to further perfect what the others had studied, which were first of all summarized. Secondly, attaching importance on the source of the materials in his works of epigraphy and the appreciation standard adds further study of his contributions in literature. Finally, highlighting Weng Fanggang’s contributions on Emendation and annotation combined with the Mending Note Su’s Poems, further summarizes his contributions in Philology and the active influence.In recent years, academic field re-know and re-comment about many scholars’ contributions and value. By means of further renovation of the classic references and integration of scholars’ ideas, and many people and their opinions have been re-acknowledged, simultaneously many scholars have been re-evaluated. As for Weng Fanggang, scholars studied the edition and the spread of the Abstract Draft of the General Catalogue, and obtained some achievements. Instead of giving a clear summary of Weng’s thoughts on collecting and amending books, the studies mainly focuses on the effects and versions of the Abstract Draft of the General Catalogue.Weng’s contributions to the value of literature hadn’t been paid much attention to when he held the post of compiling minister.The Mending Note Su’s Poems makes use of its handwriting and study of Confucian classics to emendate, which also brings important philological meaning. The paper centres on the achievements of the emendation annotation and the compilation ideas to extrude an idea of Mr. Weng.
