High performance Network Over Coax (HINOC) is a new broadband accessnetwork technology using the out-of-band channel of Community Antenna TV (CATV)coaxial cable to provide users with high-speed and high-quality multi-service. HINOCtechnology works on the coaxial cable channel band above860MHz, only by addingcorrelative HINOC Bridge(HB) and HINOC Modem(HM) to the existing cablenetworks, which could provide the services of IPTV, SDTV/HDTV and surfing theinternet.Based on the national863schemes—Research and Chip Design of a NewGeneration Broadband Access Technology over Coax, this paper discusses the design ofa hardware co-processer of HINOC network MAC layer (HIMAC co-processor) onHIMAC system board, and focuses on the design and realization of queue managementand bus controller in this project. First of all, the background and features of HINOCnetwork were analysed in this paper. Morever, how the HINOC network MAC layerworks and the design idea and structure of the HIMAC co-processor were briflyintroduced. Then, it was highlighted in this paper that the design principles of the queuemanagement module which can assemble some EMAC frames into a HIMAC frameand allocate storage space dynamically. And it was also focused on the bus controllerwhich can capture frames on bus and have the ability to access both chip memory andexternal memory. And the design of all modules were achieved. At last, The simulationand board-level verification of this two modules were also mentioned, whichdemonstrate the feasibility and correctness of the design.
