The switching unit has a significant impact on the performance of local area network in Space Station, not only ensureing network system work properly, improving the bandwidth and throughput of the overall switching network, but also effectively reducing the hardware resource requirements and power of the system. Therefore, the switching unit of Space Station is a key technology of the network system development process.The ethernet is widely used in networking for its maturity and flexibility, while QoS assurance and hard-redundancy are supported by AFDX. So the specific design, for all the switching units of24×24three-stage Clos(6,8,6) switching fabric in MSM mode, is showed in this paper based on the laboratory research project "Research and implementation of High Performance Switch in Space Station". Also the core technical issues of the design are analyzed, while more desirable and feasible results at this design stage are given, including FPGA Implementation.As a research background, firstly presenting an introduction to the technologyies used by international space station including bus, ethernet and AFDX, the paper also makes analysis and comparison between various current switch fabrics. Then for the project udertaken by laboratory, the needs analysis of Space Station muti-level switching network and the design summury of every level switching unit are given. And in Chapter three, three key technical issues (time slot, scheduling algorithm and the interface between switching units),for the switching unit design, are deeply discussed and analyzed, as well as the current solutions to these issues are also given. At the end of this paper, several key technical modules are timing simulated. By the simulation results analysis, the correctness, rationality and feasibility of this design are verified. And the desired research target is finally achieved.
