In this paper, a design for digital multimedia communication controller based on Z228high performance processor and the WinCE operating system is proposed, through the analysis of multimedia communication controller’s trends and significance. And the controller will be applied to the nurse station of medical calling system according to pracital requirements. The work in this issue is related with software development of the controller and nurse station.In the controller’s software development, communication model of server and client is proposed in the first, and currency handle architecture based on asynchronous socket interface is used for server, which effectively solve the problem of parallel request. In this model, the controller’s communication protocol is built, and with the technology of network programming based on socket and multithreading, multimedia communication is implemented by modularized application program development in instantiation method. Next, the error of audio data recording is solved by modifying the audio driver program.In the nurse station’s software development, according to functional requirements of medical calling system, the controller’s communication protocol is extended based on the software architecture of communication controller. And the following functions have been implemented:calling, warning, monitoring, the message leaving and message playback etc.Further, in this paper, the multimedia communication system’s experimental results are summarized. Solutions are proposed for lack of communication controller. From the experimental results, the system has good quality for audio and video communication, which can meet the needs of medical calling system.
