VHF radar has a natural advantage in the anti-stealth and anti-radiation missile, butits angular resolution is poor due to the wide beam width,. Especially in the elevationdimension, the multi-path reflection reduces the precision to measure the height oftarget for VHF radar. This thesis focuses on the method and engineering realization ofMaximum Likelihood–one of super-resolution algorithms–to the measure height in VHFdigital phased array radar. The echo signal model of VHF radar and basic principle ofMaximum Likelihood are introduced in this paper firstly. The synthetic steering vectoralgorithm of Maximum Likelihood considering signal reflection from earth surface isintroduced based on the preceding analysis. Then the software is implemented by usingADSP TS201S. The optimization method of assembler in DSP and the test result in theengineering realization are also presented. Finally a number of typical problems found in the engineering realization includingthe bad effect of complex angular position, the correction of terrain table, jumps ofpre-estimate, the scope of application for the synthetic steering vector algorithm andDBF algorithm are detailed analyses and a specific solution is also given.
