Storage Area Network gives large bandwidth connection between host and storage, but without a clustered file system storage can only be owned by the corresponding host, it still can not be shared among a large number of disks. If we want to benefit from the advantages of SAN technology which allows us to share storage with large bandwidth, research on a clustered sharing file system is needed. Considering the disadvantages of Network sharing file systems (NFS, CIFS Samba, etc) which are limited by the bottleneck of TCP/IP protocol, we need a SAN based file system. After studying the characters of FC-SAN, I give a file system model of High performance sharing file system which can fulfill the promise of SAN. Unlike NFS-through which the data will be wrapped as TCP/IP package-the data will be transferred directly from disk to host, nearly in the same speed as local access. |
