More and more retailers are attaching greater importance to the construction of their E-commerce platforms. They do this for two reasons. First, they aim to provide a supplement for the products sale of their off-line outlets. Second, they aim at enhancing their market positions through exploiting the large profits in the field of E-commerce. As an important part of E-commerce platform, product catalog management plays a huge role in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the E-commerce platform. The catalog management for retailers’E-commerce platform not only requires the functionalities of conventional E-commerce platforms, but also need to integrate retailers’existing data systems in order to ensure data consistency.This paper, based on the experience of advanced and mature e-commerce platforms from home and abroad and in line with the real customer needs, takes the content management systems in retailers’e-commerce platforms as research subject.It also provides detailed analysis to the design, functionality and architecture of the system, and describes the business logic in detail. This paper bases on the mature ATG E-commerce platform and describes how to manage the catalog of e-commerce platform on this platform. On the basis of the platform’s existing functionalities and through combining requirements, it describes how to design a series of functionalities to support product catalog management, including the structural design of the product catalog; data update and release processes; the initialization of product catalogs such as SKUs and product; establishing the relationships between product catalog objects; and data version control. This paper also discusses how to integrate the ATG system with enterprises’existing data systems, and how to achieve data synchronization and sharing through reading intermediate files. The research result of this paper will provide a solution reference model for those retailers who want to build their own E-commerce platforms.
