In recent years, with the rapid development of computer technology and network technology, people have put more attention to the advanced automatic technologies’ applications in construction field. China’s construction industry belongs to labor-intensive industry, and the traditional construction management methods are mostly based on manual ways for data collecting, analysis and processing. This manual monitoring method leads to much time consuming, high resources consuming, low measurement accuracy and lagging information transmission, which can not provide real-time support for managers to make decisions. Consequently, it has important practical significance to research construction site automatic monitoring management based on real-time information to support managers to make right decisions in real time.In this paper, combining the computer technology, wireless communication technology, network technology, and measurement and control technology with construction management together, taking temperature factor as the monitoring indicator, a construction site environment temperature automatic monitoring system based on wireless sensor network and virtual instrument is studied.Firstly, based on reviewing of a large number of literatures, the research and applications of varieties of automatic monitoring technologies in construction field are analyzed. The main direction of current research is summarized and the shortcomings of current researches are put forward. The automatic monitoring technology is introduced into construction management field, which lays a foundation for further study.Next, the ZigBee, ultra wide band, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and RFID technologies are elaborated. The working principle, technical characteristics and applicable environment of these technologies are analyzed in detail. Then the wireless sensor network is introduced, and its potential application scenarios in construction field are presented.Moreover, based on ZigBee wireless sensor network architecture, the three layers system structure of the construction site environment temperature automatic monitoring system is put forward, i.e.,perception layer, network layer and application layer. Through analyzing the working principle and property of the system hardware, the connection of temperature sensors, wireless sensor nodes, gateway and main controller is elaborated, and the hardware platform of the system is designed.In addition, the overall function structure of the system is designed. The parameters setting module, collecting control module, data display module, real-time monitoring module, limiting value alarm module, data analysis module and data storage module are presented. And based on virtual instrument technology, taking modular design as the basic idea for program design, the LabVIEW graphical programming language is adopted for function design of these modules.Finally, the indoor and outdoor environment temperature monitoring experiment is carried out. The system hardware connection performance, the realization of WSN network, the integration of system hardware and software, the real-time temperature monitoring effect are tested, and the feasibility of the system is verified. Moreover, influence factors of the temperature monitoring system are analyzed, and the corresponding countermeasures are put forward.
