The Change Of Media Report Frame In Time Dimension

As everyone knows,the news media has a powerful influence and capacity to intervene in the formation of public opinion.The tendency of the media in the selection and restructuring of information penetration,and clearly showing the view through the comments and other forms will have implications for the audience’s perception,judgment,feelings and opinions strongly.However,media reports of a news event, not passively reflect the whole picture of it,but take the initiative to use their framework to construct the event,allowing the audience to accept the concept of the media and law unwittingly.Family planning remains a basic state policy for China over30years. During these years, most of the media is dominated by positive coverage of family planning. While the policy’s negative consequence is not common in newspapers. However, with the population problems are getting worse, such as the problem of birth sex ratio imbalance, accelerated aging, loss of the only child. More and more scholars appeal for adjusting family planning, folks also strongly hope to have a second child, and more important is the government began to appear different sounds. In this context, the family planning reports of Guangzhou Daily have been arisen a subtle change around2011.This study is guided by frame theory, combining qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. The sample is the family planning reports of Guangzhou Daily from2008to2012. Five categories are compared:title keywords, report types, news sources, news theme and tone. The study shows that, compared with the reports from2008to2010, the frame of family planning reports has changed a lot after2011. In particular, report types, news sources and news theme tend to be diversified. Moreover, the tone of the reports tilted to a neutral position or even opposition.Behind the frame change of family planning reports of Guangzhou Daily, the fact is the change of discourse power. With the scholars and the general public’s voice began to appear, the discourse power which is originally led by the government began to split, and the media gradually compromise in the competition of discourse right.
