Academic books are important tools to inherate academic thinking and spread academic achievements.Publication of academic books also helps to promote the communication of academic achievements. Therefore, the academic development not only reflects a country’s political and cultural situation, but also an important indicator to measure a country’s publishing industry.During the first half of the20th century, Chinese academic community have suffered a turbulent and magnificent period, when all kinds of social trends poured into China. At this time, China’s academia presented a scene of prosperity,which was called"Bai Jia Zheng Ming". Chinese intellectuals’ appeal on academic problems,their willingness to spread their thoughts to the general public and being acquainted in academic community promoted the development of the publishing industry objectically. Because of the overlap of publishing industy and academic books, a serious of high quality academic books emerged,some of which was still being reprinted."We can understand rise and decline by taking history as a mirror". In the period of the republic of China, Zhonghua Book Company as the second largest private publishing institutions, makes a great contribution of the publication of academic books.Though the experiences and inspiration of academic books publication has pasted more than half a century, but it may still worth learning now.In this paper, academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company from1912 to1949were chossen as objects of study,which could be divided into ancient academic books and original academic books.By a quantative analysis, it’s obvious that the academic publication period of Zhonghua Book Company can be divided as infancy, prosperity and decline phrases. What is more, it also reveals the emphasis of its academic books is humanities books not the natural books. The translation of western academic books also centralized in Europe,the United States, and Japan.Other countries have very limited effects.Meanwhile, it’s discussed of the relationship between its author group, editor group and translator group and their respective contribution to academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company.This paper is divided into six parts:The first part:introduction.lt introduces the origin of the topic, the definition of academic books, the background of Chinese traditional academic transformation as well as the present study of Zhonghua Book Company.The second part:The overview of academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company from1912to1949. First of all, introduce the background of the publication of academic books, including three aspects of the political background, economic background, cultural background, and secondly, depending on the selected topic resources,the publication of Zhonghua Book Company are divided into ancient academic books and original academic books.The third part:analysis of academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company from1912to1949. By the method of quantitative analysis, the academic disciplines, nationality and print form are analyzed.The fourth part:The relationship between academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company from1912to1949with the group of editor,translator,and author. Respectively introduce group of authors, editors, and translators group and the relationship between the academic books published.The fifth part:The contribution of academic books published by Zhonghua Book Company from1912to1949. Mainly from the modern discipline system construction, the publishing norm of academic books and so on.The Sixth part:conclusion. A brief review of the full text.
