Compared to traditional point-scanning laser radar, plane array imaging laser radar based on the ranging principles of range-gated and gain modulation has the advantages of fast ranging and is a new technical means to obtain high-resolution geo-spatial information. It can quickly obtain high-precision, high-resolution digital elevation model. so it has a broad application prospects in geographic information collection.The background and the course of development of the laser radar are introduced at first. Then characteristics of several typical laser radar are analyzed. The Principles and differences between direct detection radar and indirect detection radar are emphasized. According to the principle of laser radar, the principle and error analysis of unilinear modulation and bilinear modulation are analyzed. The single and dual channel system has their own advantages and disadvantages On different occasions.A more convenient way to improve the accuracy of radar detection is proposed, that is gray image superposition. Its principle is to make full use of large areas of the overlapping area between adjacent images. Then the factors, such as the flight attitude, light uniformity and superposition frame number that influence the application of gray registration and superposition, are analyzed theoretically. In the end, a ground of dynamic experiments and aerial experiment are conducted to verify the validity of the method.The advantages and disadvantages between area-based registration method and feature-based registration method are analyzed. Direct splicing of the images are likely to cause the cumulative effect of registration error, so a new method is proposed that the images are divided into several groups then are spliced. The burr problem when phase correlation algorithm is used is analyzed. A new algorithm is proposed to solve the problem.The imaging characteristics of the airborne plane array laser radar system are introduced, and the relationship between aircraft attitude and range map is analyzed. The method of range-image projection correction by rotation matrix is proposed. The experiments verify the correctness of this method.Finally, the whole paper is summarized and several prospects are proposed.
