Motor vehicle’s front headlight occurs light-blooming phenomenon at night, which affects the driver’s visual range, making them unable to recognize their own traffic route and the people walking beside. It often leads to the tragedy happen. On the other hand, if light-blooming phenomenon appears when using ordinary camera, it will also make the image can’t recognize. The visible light image is vivid, suitable for the characteristics of the human eye observation, but the visible light CCD occurs light-blooming phenomenon at the glare environment. The infrared image is an image formed on the outside scene temperature differences, and is not sensitive to visible light band. Because the visible and infrared image have mutually complementary, using image fusion method synthetic a single video image, thus eliminating the light-blooming phenomenon.According to study and simulate the image fusion method, this paper presents an image fusion method based on YUV color space and wavelet transform. Firstly, affine transformation is used to the visible image registration and the image after registration is converted to YUV color space. Secondly, the Y’component is obtained from the Y component and infrared grayscale image fusion with wavelet transform. Thirdly, the Y’UV is converted to RGB which is the final image. Compared with the YUV color space and wavelet fusion method, the results show that the combination method achieves better fusion effect and image resolution improved. At last, through VC language writing the video fusion system, which verifies that the YUV color space and wavelet fusion method have good real-time performance and faster computing speed than wavelet fusion method.
