In recent years, more and more researchers come up with the concept of Wireless SensorNetworks (WSNs) based on IPv6technology, that is embedding reduced IPv6protocol stack intonormal sensor nodes. So how to test WSNs which are based on IPv6protocol implements toguarantee effective and reliable communication becomes the key point of this concept.Protocol testing is the process of detecting whether the protocol implement satisfiescorresponding Request for Comments (RFC). Conformance and performance testing constitute themain content of protocol testing. Based on thorough investigation of protocol conformance testingtheory and methods, focused on IPv6Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP), this dissertation modelsthe NDP as a Finite State Machine (FSM) according to its characteristic and obtains the abstractconformance testing sequence of this FSM by using a modified algorithm which combines theT-method and U-method. This dissertation also analyses the validity and reliability of this algorithm.The analysis results show that the length of the testing sequence obtained by using this algorithm isshorter than traditional U-method and the detection coverage for output error and tail state error isfavourable.Meanwhile, focused on the famous6LowPAN protocol stack, this dissertation provides astar-shaped6LowPAN with unslotted CSMA/CA mechanism and analyses the MAC layerperformance under this scenario. By modeling the stochastic behavior of the target device as M/G/1queuing system, this dissertation compares the relation among some performance parameters suchas number of nodes in the network, packet loss probability, length of MAC frame and energyefficient of a node. Last but not least, this dissertation also comes up with a project for theperformance testing of6LowPAN MAC protocol. Both testing system and testing methods fordifferent parameters are introduced in this project.
