Wireless sensor network is one of the most popular research projects in recent years. ZigBeetechnology has been widely studied for its low power, low cost, low data transmission rate and highreliability. Many researchers can be convenient for experimental researches, because protocol stackis open source.Localization is a key technology in the wireless sensor network. But in the existed localizationalgorithms, angle of arrive (AOA) algorithm has a high communication cost for antenna array, timeof arrive (TOA) algorithm is difficult to implement for precise synchronization between nodes, centroid algorithm has a low localization accuracy for cumulative error. This paper completes experimental analysis using RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)algorithm and TDOA (Time Different Of Arrive) algorithm, and concludes that RSSI localizationalgorithm can obtain a higher positioning accuracy when the distance is less than7meters, TDOApositioning algorithm can get a higher accuracy when the distance is more than10meters and thetwo localization algorithms both do not have a high accuracy when the distance is between7metersto10meters.To solve this problem, this paper puts forward hybrid localization algorithm to improve thepositioning accuracy of each distance segment, using RSSI and TDOA weighted position by theRSSI measurements. The experiments validate that the positioning accuracy is higher using thehybrid algorithm. This paper gives recommendations about nodes arrangement to localize vehicleson the road and tunnel.Hybrid localization algorithm provides the reference for engineering implementation oflocalization problem in the wireless sensor network.
