Channel coding technique could significantly ameliorate the performance of digital communication systems, increase the capacity of communication systems, and bring the coding gain. All the time, many people have been making a great effort to look for good channel coding, whose performance would approach the C.E.Shannon’s theoretical limit. In2007, E.Arikan proposed a coding technique called Polar code, on the binary discrete memoryless channel conditions, in theory, be proved to reach Shannon limit, and the encoding as well as the decoding operation of Polar codes can be implemented with low complexity. As a new encoding technology, Polar code has revolutionized the field of Error-Correcting codes, has caused widespread concern in the wireless communication sector, become the research foucs, and get the most attentions in channel coding field. Polar codes are systematically elaborated in the thesis, the principle of encoding and decoding are introduced, then Polar code with Turbo codes, LDPC codes are compared in the simulation. First, channel polarization phenomenon is introduced, and then the process of the channel combining and channel spitting are discussed in detail, as well as channel polarization characteristics. Then, the method of the encoding and decoding constructor are emphasized on, the Polar code generation matrix formation process is systematically derived, the selection method of information bits are summarized, and the upper and lower boundaries of the Polar code error probability is deeply studied. Finally, the performances of Polar code are showed via simulation, the influence of different coding block lengths, different encoding coderates and different iteration times are explored and compared. And the Polar codes and Turbo codes, LDPC codes are also compared in the simulation, and the performance as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the three encoding are analyzed in detail.
