Undergraduate theses are usually the key item for inspection by various departments.Undergraduate thesis needs to meet strict requirement as to contents and formats, and thereview process is long and complicated. Apart from contents, students usually need to spend alot of time in formatting their graduation theses. Currently the review process for textformatting is done by students and teachers manually, and the whole process of thesiscomposition would need many rounds of revision, which adds additional work for studentsand teachers.In conclusion, it is a practical and creative move to design and implement asimple but efficient automated typesetting system for thesis. The system makes it easier forstudents to format their theses, and teachers could focus on the theme design and contentscreativity, increase their efficiency, in the meantime, the quality of students thesis isguaranteed.There are many typesetting systems available in the market, but few of them are set forundergraduate thesis. Though Microsoft Word itself is not professional typesetting software, itcould be used to design the typesetting software exclusively for undergraduate thesis, takingadvantage of its powerful functions. Based on the demand analysis of Guangdong Universityof Finance s thesis requirements, this system is divided into two modules. One module istargeted at formatting parts with fixed typesetting such as the opening report, thesis cover andetc. Microsoft Word templates are designed via Word “insert comment” function to realize thesimple replacement of contents. The other is targeted at the typesetting of graduate thesis.Macros are recorded and then macro codes are converted into Delphi language; with a userfriendly interface, then automated typesetting for graduate thesis is realized. This paperillustrates the method in linking Delphi language and Word directly. And the automatedtypesetting system for graduate thesis or other related documents could be realized by usingintelligent recognition technology to format the contents accordingly.As the title could be customized, this system s user group does not only include studentsof Guangdong University of Finance but also most other college students. Currently thesystem has been put into use and received positive feedbacks.
