Information grid is also called grid, it is a dynamically reconfigurable, scalable andself-government network infrastructure, it can achieve comprehensive sharing andcollaboration of wide-area resources such as computing, storage, data, communicationand so on. Resource discovery is the key to realize these two core functions, and thepresence of massive heterogeneous resources in grid environment makes resourcediscovery must be implemented by reasonable resources’ characterization. Therefore, thispaper mainly discusses the characterization and dynamic discovery of the gridresources.Open grid service architecture OGSA proposes a concept of "service", all theresources are abstracted into service, and characterization of service is implemented byreasonable description of the resource. This paper first makes a fully study of the wayswhich be used to describe resources, and points out the shortcomings and limitations ofRSL, WSDL, and the advantage of RDF. Then this paper proposes a grid resourcedescription method based on XML/RDF and classified metadata, which uses theExtensible Markup Language XML and RDF to describe resources in the grid, for eachspecific type of resources the method develops a unified metadata standards, themeta-information of resource entity can be extracted and classified by use of themetadata standards.Based on standard describtion of the grid resources, efficient dynamic discovery ofgrid resource is the important guarantee for the sharing of resources. Through detailedstudy of centralized, distributed discovery of resource in this paper, for the weak pointof these ways, this paper designs a dynamic discovery model RDMRR based onresource ring, the model is a hybrid model of hierarchical structure, so it not only hasthe convenience of centralized ways but also has the advantages of distributed ways likeeasy to expand, and the topology of the underlying nodes in traditional model is changed into ring structure, and by use of the effective mechanism like neighborcommunication to ensure structural stability. In order to adapt to the structuralcharacteristics of the model, this paper also improves the underlying discoveryalgorithm based on small world theory to improve the efficiency to discover and matchresources in the grid. Finally, this paper makes a validation of diffusion algorithm for dynamic resources’discovery which is used in the model, it also summaries an overview of the model andgive a future outlook for research in the further.
