As the development of integrated circuits (IC) and power electronics technology, the power management technology is widely applied to different kinds of electric apparatus and systems as well as systems on a chip (SOC). And higher and higher performances are required for power management chips and modules, which brings new challenges to the technology of their system and circuit design as well as their simulation, verification, manufacture and test technology.The key technologies to enhance accuracy and reliability of the power management ICs were introduces in this dissertation. To improve the accuracy and reliability and guarantee their safety of power management circuits, some effective technical approaches were analyzed and discussed deeply. And as example, several power management chips were successfully designed. At the last paragraph, the influence of layout design to circuits were discussed based on the design of a power management module in mobile TV tuner chip. And some mesures to improve layout design of quality IC were proposed to optimize its performances. The layout design of the tuner was achieved and testing results showed its performances were consistent with expectations.The main contributions in this dissertation are:1. To guarantee the high reliability of power management ICs, different protection circuits were studied such as over voltage and under voltage protection, over current protection and, over temperature protection circuits, etc. At the same time, their protection principes and mechanism were discussed in details. By using these protection circuits, a hot swap controller chip, which could provide highly reliable and safe operation, was completed.2. To improve the performances of power management ICs and maintain them stable work, the stability of the ICs under fluctuation of power suppliy, loadas well as ambient temperature was analyzed. And the measures to improve it were introduced. As results, a LDO regulator with high stability that used in the cell phone was designed and implemented.As an example of high precision IC design, an accurate load share controller chip was designed using the automatic master-slave control technique. The accuracy was verified by its testing results.3. Layout is of key importance to performance of ICs. The dissertation introduced layout design skills for digital and analog integrated circuits respectively. And some approaches to solve issuses on layout design in submicron IC were presented. The measures of layout optimization for analog IC were also discussed in details.Facing the challenge of technology progress, the following work of the dissertation includes continuing the research on improving performance of power management ICs such as the capability of outputting large current under low voltage and low power condition, etc. The object is to derive the optimization approach to archieve high reliable IC design from practical design and verification of the modern integrated circuits.
