Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has achieved rapid development inrecent years.With the increasingly widespread application in various fields, RFID hasbecome one of the fundamental technologies on future information society. Technologyresearch is aimed at application. For the application of RFID tag, the paper focuses onthe high_performance RF front-end circuits and chip reliability after telling RFID’sbasic working principles.The article firstly introduces the developing status and trend of RFIDtechnology.And then after talking antenna and electromagnetic radiation theory, thepaper analyzes energy transfer, composition, communication processes, data protectionand calibration of RFID system.Secondly, regarding the characteristics of UHF RFID tags such as passivity and lowpower consumption, the article designs RF front_end circuits of the chip and mostlyintroduces reliability design of UHF RFID tags chip. In brief introduction to failuremechanism and protection principle of ESD, the article specifically introduces four ESDdesign schemes applied to UHF RFID chip, including their device structures,operatingprinciples, simulation analysis and the equivalent impedance calculation.And then fourkinds of ESD design schemes are compared and analyzed in details, and test results ispresented.Finally, the article presents ESD access method which was adopted in this flow andmethods and principles used in the process of the entire chip layout design, and givesthe whole layout of the final instance.The chip putted in this paper has been taped out in JUN2010under the TSMC0.18μm process line and proved to be successful.
