This paper is a project from Meteorological Bureau, and it is aimed at resolving some problems about wind direction and speed self-recording paper, so it brings up the digital algorithm of wind direction and speed self-recording paper based on direction filter, and pays more attention on some methods of digital image processing, such as the edge detection, the image correction, the curve fitting and so on.As we observe the wind direction and speed self-recording paper, we could find easily something. The axis of paper is composed by both horizontal and vertical lines, and the horizontal lines are longer than vertical lines. First of all, because of this aspect, Canny Operator is the best way to detect the edge of self-recording paper. And then, according to the theories of simplified Radon Transform that is an innovative design, and then make a rotation, it can correct the inclined image. Secondly, in accordance with the rule of the lines, it takes advance of projection of image to find the correct location of the axis and wind direction data. Finally, it gets the real speed curve line and wind speed data, using the algorithms of direction filter and curve fitting.In addition to studying the algorithm of detecting wind direction and speed self-recording paper, this paper also use MATLAB computer language to practice the correction of the algorithm this paper claims, such as image rotation and collection, the extraction about horizontal and vertical lines, the fitting extraction and quantitative analysis on wind direction and speed and so on. At the same time, some innovative ideas are tested successfully by MATLAB. The result from simulation can prove that this algorithm is effective to detect the self-recording paper and get data correctly.
