With the rapid development of wireless communication system, the circuit of themobile communication terminals-the handsets has developed from the original discretecomponents to high integrated modules. China has built the larges GSM network in theworld which covers both900MHz and1800MHz frequence band, EDGE uses a similarnetwork protocol structure (signaling) as GSM. So the mobile phones with multi modewhich can work on multi bamd will play an important role in the market.In this background,this paper designs a CMOS controller which used inGSM/EDGE mode and900MHz/1800MHz band.A novel power control circuit withlow cost and high integration for the final RF amplifier module is designed. The basevoltage of the PA was controlled by the controller, the proposed technique to controloutput power of the PA module has advantages in dynamic range and accuracy,compared to conventional methods.Results from post simulation showed that theoutput power can be controlled in2dBm steps accurately.The Controller circuit proposed in this paper is designed with the0.18um standardCMOS process. Paper introduces the working theroy of the dual-mode handset RFmodule first, and analyse the structure of transmitter in particular. Then, GMSK and8PSK modulation is presented. Finally the analysis and simulation of whole circuit isgiven.
