The billing system of MSC (Mobile Switching Center) is responsible for collecting and processing the original calling data, ensuring that the original calling records not be lost nor repeated during transmission to the Bill Server without error.With the development of mobile communication,the number of billing records that the Billing System has to process becomes lager. On the basis of learning how the CDR is recorded and understanding the types and the structure of CDR,on the one hand the carrier shall try best to maintain the billing system to ensure that the billing system operates twenty-four hours a day. On the other hand,the carrier shall create programs according to characteristics of services to fulfill the needs of competition.First of all,the article introduces what the MSC charging system is made of and how it works. Follow that,the author makes a deep study of the type and structure of CDR(call date record).On this basis, in the light of this experience gained from routine maintenance activities,the author sums up the necessary measures and proper maitenace flow of billing system.At the same time,the author considers the method of charging verify in depth.Finally,the author has a discussion on the application of billing system.The author writes programs after carefully analysing the demands of the carrier such as determining the validity of subscribers,obtaining information of competitors, confirming the silence call problem,management of maintenance work and so on.These programs have been applied in the commercial activities and maintenance works of China Unicom HanZhong Branch. It increases the efficiency of the commercial activities and maintenance works and has yielded highly desirable results.
