With the extensive application of infrared imaging systems(IRIS), infrared imagingsystem simulation and performance evaluation becomes increasingly important. As animportant means of simulation entities and performance evaluation, in which thevirtual prototyping of infrared imaging system plays a vital role. handling mechanismHowever, be limited by serial data handling mechanism of CPU, the virtual prototypesimulation speed is severely restricted.A new simulation method of virtual prototyping of infrared imaging systems thatbased on the CUDA platform is proposed. In this paper, this method fully utilized thepowerful processing power of modern GPU, and implements the modulation transferfunction model and one dimensional offset/gain model directly on GPU, and gainshigh efficiency and high precision.Firstly, the history of the GPU development and thefeatures of the modern GPU are presented, the software system and operationalmechanism of CUDA are given out. Secondly, the modulation transfer function modelis dealed with the principle of seperable convolution. Finally, an initial implementationof the CUDA framework is carried out, and simulation work of virtual prototyping ofinfrared imaging systems can be accomplished efficiently.Several highlights were developed in this paper. For example, GPU-based platform,"achieve the high-speed parallel computing," as a starting point, achieved the speedupof virtual prototyping. Finally based on Characteristics of the GPU platform, optimizedthe simulation algorithms.
