With the rapid development of mobile communications technology, the higherdemand of the market for mobile handsets, that mainly displays in miniaturization,multi-band and broadband is presented. Based on the basic handset antenna theoreticaland analytical methods using to analyze handset antenna, the technique forminiaturization, multi-band and broadband handset antennas is summarized. Finally,some novel antennas are proposed with the help of the commercial electromagneticsimulation softwareAnsoft HFSS.In the thesis, two compact internal multi-band monopole antennas(GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS and GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS/LTE) and one PIFA antenna(GSM/DCS/ISM) are presented. Two monopole antennas are made and measured, and agood agreement between measurement and simulation is achieved. We are satisfied withthe specification of the three handset antennas in miniaturization, multi-band andbroadband. These antennas have enough bandwidth for covering operation bandsaccording return loss less than-6.0dB (VSWR<3.0), have approximatelyomni-directional radiation characteristics, and these monopole antennas occupy smallvolume. So these antennas suitable for new generation mobile communicationapplications, and should be have good application.At last, we summarize the research of the thesis and put forward some need to beimproved.
