With the development of computer technology, network communicationtechnology and multimedia technology, a pattern of remote education based on networkis slowly taking form. The pattern breaks up the limitations of traditional educationpattern, and provides a network learning environment for the geographically dispersedteachers and students. The pattern also offers a very effective way to popularizeeducation and implement continuing education. The thesis designed and implemented a real-time virtual classroom system basedon network according to the analysis of remote education at home and abroad. Thesystem implemented the teaching functions of conventional classrooms, and providedfor the teachers and students many communication ways, such as text chat, electronicwhite-board, voice chat and video living broadcast. The thesis firstly gave a description of the background and contents of the research, and analyzed the advantages of P2P (Peer to Peer) technology for streamingapplications. At the same time, a scheme based on Mediastreamer2library to implementthe acquisition, coding, transmission, decoding and playing of audio and video wasproposed. Also, advantages of BEEP (Block Extensible Exchange Protocol) protocolon application layer and ActiveX technology were analyzed. Secondly, on the basis ofrequirement analysis, the thesis proposed the overall design and modularization of thesystem, defined the format of message, and elaborated the detailed design andimplementation of the system from the aspects of client and server. Function testing andperformance testing were conducted, and the test results were analyzed. Finally, thethesis pointed out the research direction in the future.
