The study background of this paper is to build BGI biological cloud for the leadingenterprise in Chinese biology industry, Genomics Institute (BGI). For example, providing the continuous bioinformatics computing virtual environment for trainees, namely vLab architecture, and this architecture will finish the process to make anuniform deployment on client terminal applications and the release on several servers, and then realize the uniform release of application and offer an effective barrier todifferent client terminals, resolve the issue of difficulty in management, upgrading andmaintenance resulting from too many types of client terminal PCs currently and avoidthe application conflicts caused by operating system, port, software development andother factors. Many problems arise from the process of actual deployment and realization of BGIbiological cloud. For instance, this biological cloud has a very high requirement formemory structure in terms of management, performance and extensibility, such asgrade-PB memory capacity and grade-GB throughput that are extremely difficult toachieve in the ordinary architecture; as well as how to handle the hardware resource, software resource, delivery mode and charging mode. For the above issues, a deep study was performed in the paper. The technologies, theories and current status associated to cloud computing was firstly introduced withthree types of basic architectures for cloud computing as examples, IaaS, Amazon S3and EC2, respectively; then (PaaS) was described with Google App Engine as anexample; and finally (SaaS) was explained with Salesforce.com and Gmail as examples. On the above basis, the main levels and structures for virtualization of key technologiesinvolving cloud computing were described in details. At last, this paper focused on twomain directions involving BGI biological cloud, cloud memory hardware foundationalarchitecture and uniform resource management. The tasks I do mainly includes (1)making research on requirement for storage system in cloud computing environmentand introduce the features of system infrastructure in detail;(2) analyzing data securityscheme structure of Isilon Scale-out storageļ¼›(3)analyzing Scale-out storage system ssupport on virtulization, clarifying how to simplify storage management, databackup, data replication management and enlargement of volume and function on line.(4)making function test at laboratory and project site in cloud computing environmentand analyzing test results;(5)making analysis and introduction on infrastructure and hardware design of Unified Resource Management System and introducing everymodule s theory and function in detail.
