With the rapid development of graphics hardware and projection technology, display system based on multiple projectors has been widely used in the field of entertainment, medical, military simulation, exhibition, digital cinema and so on. Display system based on multiple projectors with large spherical screen has been appreciated by customers because of its large scale, broad viewport, high resolution and strong immersion. Since display system based on multiple projectors with large spherical screen is expected to be widely used in industry, how to construct such a system is still a challenging problem which involving multiple projectors calibration for spherical screen and multimedia display system.For multiple projectors calibration on spherical screen, calibration technology based on camera overlook the complexity in practical engineering. In the light of the limitation of calibration technology based on camera, in this paper, we present a calibration technology based on interactive editing. We improve the current calibration software kit to achieve multiple projectors calibration for spherical screen. A calibration method called "Two Phases" has been used. Before geometry calibration and photometric calibration, we add a calibration phase to do calibration for the texture presented by a group of projectors. We also present the whole process and key technology of multiple projectors calibration for spherical screen including texture generation, projection area assignment, texture splitting and so on.For multimedia display, video playback is the commonest application. Video player system driven by cluster has been widely used because it is powerful to meet the requirements of high-resolution display while its price is also acceptable. Since a number of research efforts focus on constructing video player systems driven by PC Clusters, high reliability is still overlooked. Based on analyzing reliability requirements of video playback application, in this paper, we design and implement a video player system driven by cluster. The video player system contains one Master node and several Slave nodes. Video display and cluster management are two main software modules. For video display module, video playback, stereoscopic display, projection calibration and frame flush synchronously are four important parts. For cluster management, autonomic computing is introduced and high reliability is achieved by self-configuring and self-healing. Based on video player system, we also present the system architecture and key technology of multimedia display system.Experimental results shows that using multiple projection calibration technology based on interactive editing proposed in this paper, a partial spherical screen presented by six projectors has been successfully constructed. For video player system driven by cluster, we measure effectiveness and efficiency of video display and autonomic computing. Finally, a practical application of multimedia display system is introduced.
