With the widely reception of Internet and the improvements of bandwidth, the videoand audio is becoming the most popular Internet serves. In this case, many young peoplechose VoIP for remote call while traditional telephone calls spend much more payments.At the same time, processors based on ARM architecture occupied more and more marketshare, the embedded devices and smart devices based on ARM accepted by most of people,and maybe replace the telephones in the flowing20or30years. Under this situation, thispaper build a VoIP system used in embedded systems, which spend less hardwareresources and provide high performance, after consider the capability of mainly usedmobile devices.After the analysis of the development of VoIP and the key techlogys about how toprovide a reliable and high quality voice transmissions via packet-switch network, aembed VoIP system architecture solution was proposed in this paper. This system cantinasa client, a server and a featured signal system which can provide the communicationbetween clients and server. The clients work on S3C2410platform and communicate withserver via wired of wireless network interface. The mdiastreamer2media engine was usedto develop the clients, which can provides high performance media process, speex wasused to encode/decode voice data, and the ortp was used to send voice data out. The serverworks on Windows, which based on multithread, it’s the center of VoIP system and controlthe client voice communication.In this paper, the design and work process of client, server and the signal system arediscussed in detail. At the last of this paper, the test result was presented, which canexplain that the VoIP system can provide a satisfactory services of voice communicationand the server can handle much connection request nicely. The research of this paper isuseful for the VoIP serves development.
